Chiropractic Treatment Flexion/DistractionThis is a method that was devised to incorporate a chiropractic adjustment and traction therapy. It is excellent in treating conditions like disc problems and sciatica. TractionTraction is utilized to separate two adjacent vertebrae to stretch the muscles and to relieve pressure on the nerves and to help reduce herniated or bulging discs. ActivatorThis method utilized a low force technique to move the vertebrae. It is excellent for those who do not like adjusting with the hands, or for young children or the elderly. |
Massage Therapy
Therapeutic MassageModerate amounts of pressure is applied to the muscles to facilitate relaxation of the muscles. Deep Tissue MassageHeavy pressure is applied to the muscles to force the muscles to relax. This type of massage it not described as relaxing, and is used to release tension that has been stored in the muscles for a long time. Not every patient is a candidate for deep tissue massage. Relaxation (Swedish Massage)Light, gentle pressure is applied to relax the body. This type of massage is not therapeutic to the muscles (it does not release the tension in the muscles). This form of therapy is most commonly used to release stress, or on pregnant patients. Trigger Point TherapyA trigger point is commonly known as a “knot in the muscles”. The knot is caused by the muscle becoming tight and unable to let the toxins (waste products) flow out of the muscle. These toxins build up in the muscle creating a palpable lump. These are most often felt in the shoulders and upper back muscles. Moderate pressure is used on the “know” to press out all the toxins that are stored in the muscles Myofascial ReleaseThis type of massage also incorporates stretching of a specific muscle with the massage. It is an active process which involves the patient moving a joint as the therapist massages the involved muscle |
Physical TherapyCryotherapyCryotherapy is a term that describes the application of ice, cold towels, ice massage and compression to reduce the temperature of tissues directly on or below the surface of the skin. Surface cooling constricts the blood vessels, numbs painful areas, and helps relax muscle spasm. Cold temperatures reduce nerve transmission of painful symptoms and provide temporary relief. Superficial HeatHot packs, warm moist towels, heating pad and water bottles and infrared lamps are often used to help raise the temperature of soft tissues directly below the surface of the skin. Heat applied to the surface of the skin enlarges blood vessels below the surface, relaxing tissues and can temporarily relieve painful symptoms. Increasing circulation and relaxing muscles is helpful before or after chiropractic adjustments, exercises, and other treatments. Electro-Muscle Stimulation (EMS)EMS is a generalized term which includes a variety of treatments that all utilize electrical current to gently stimulate the muscle tissues. It is a special form of electrical current that is administered at the site of soft tissue injury, especially muscles, for the blocking of pain. Small amounts of electrical current are induced in the tissues for the purpose of reducing swelling. This widely used technique safely strengthens muscles and helps reduce painful symptoms. UltrasoundUltrasound is a therapeutic treatment using high-frequency sound waves administered in the region of soft tissue injuries. Sound vibrations, as fast as a million times per second, penetrate the tissues deep in the body, creating a heat response. These vibrations and heat help break down and disperse unhealthy calcium and other hard tissue accumulations. Intersegmental tractionTraction is a way if inducing passive motion into the spine for the purpose of stretching spinal joints, increasing mobility. Since discs have a poor blood supply, they get nutrients from the circulation of fluids surrounding the spinal joints. Fixations prevent this natural circulation and can cause disc thinning and degeneration. Intersegmental traction helps increase and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine. |
Rehabilitation The Synergy Therapeutic Systems™ Program is designed to help both the doctor administer rehabilitation to patients and to empower them in taking an active role in the healing process by participating first in the office and then to comply at home. Home rehabilitation will only occur if the patient has learned how to do the exercises and why to do them. Synergy Therapeutic Systems™ is designed to do just that. Once the patients execute the exercises properly in the office, they simply duplicate their efforts at home with the support from the educational materials used as reference. With injury, muscles, ligaments and tendons atrophy, losing their function including flexibility, balance and strength. To treat patients properly and progressively, Synergy has developed a three-phase rehabilitation program designed to encourage patients to take an active role in stretching, strengthening and improving their balance. The goal of the Synergy Therapeutic Systems™ rehabilitation program is to return patients to their activities of daily living and afford them with as much independence as present resources allow. |
